Zerust / VCI Packaging Selection Guide

Zerust volatile corrosion inhibitors (VCI) protect metal parts in storage or transit by releasing a corrosion-inhibiting vapour into the enclosed space. The vapour condenses on the metal surface as a monolayer that displaces water and blocks the electrochemical corrosion cell; when the part is removed from the enclosure the vapour dissipates and the surface is clean, oil-free and ready for service — no wash, no strip. Products vary by carrier (film, paper, plastab, capsule, oil, spray), by chemistry (Ferrous = iron/steel only, Multimetal = iron + Cu / brass / Al / Zn) and by dose (specified volume of enclosed space each product protects).

Choosing the right product

Metal family first — Ferrous formula (blue label) protects iron and steel only; on Cu, brass, Al or Zn it accelerates corrosion. Multimetal formula (green label) protects both.
Then coverage. Every product carries a specified enclosed volume (30 L per plastab, 30 dm³ per capsule, bag internal volume). Under-dosing leaves surfaces unprotected; over-dosing wastes.
Enclose the space. VCI only works inside a closed enclosure — cabinet, sealed poly bag, closed toolbox or shrink-wrapped pallet. Seams and openings must be taped or heat-sealed.
Shelf life. Sealed film / paper 2 years in the closed pack; open products (Spray-G, Rust-Ban HD Bag) start the clock when the enclosure is opened.
Marine spares. Multimetal Film Bag + Vapor Capsule VC1 inside a sealed poly-bag pack is the default for marine export packaging.
