It supplies the wiping and sealing consumables for a scheduled wiper overhaul as a single item. The quartz sleeve is the only optical path between the lamp and the water, so any film of scale or iron on its outer surface cuts the delivered UV dose. The wiper sweeps the sleeve on a timed cycle to keep transmission at the design figure. The 38 mm designation is the quartz sleeve diameter; systems built around the 47 mm sleeve take kit 180011-6047 instead, and the two are not substitutes. Reference number 2279-0410.
